SAJ hybrid inverters and batteries, what you need to know

Who SAJ is, how the H2 hybrid inverter and B2 batteries fit together, what the newer HS5 all-in-one adds, and what the warranties and elekeeper app cover.

SAJ is a name you may see on Australian solar and battery quotes. If you have seen it next to a hybrid inverter or a stack of battery modules, this guide explains who the company is, what the main products do and what the warranty paperwork says.

Who SAJ is

SAJ is the brand of Guangzhou Sanjing Electric, a Chinese maker of solar inverters, batteries and energy management gear. Its current Australian battery warranty names SAJ Digital Energy Australia Pty Ltd, with an office in Docklands, Melbourne, as the local company, and includes the standard Australian Consumer Law statement. SAJ also lists an Australian service phone line on its local website.

The H2 hybrid inverter

A hybrid inverter runs your solar panels and a battery from one box. It turns solar power into household power, charges the battery with what you do not use, and runs the home from the battery later.

SAJ's H2 is its single phase hybrid inverter for homes, offered in Australia from 5 kW to 10 kW. SAJ describes it with three solar inputs (MPPTs), which gives some flexibility when panels face different directions, such as an east and west split roof. SAJ also makes a separate three phase H2 range for larger homes and properties.

The B2 batteries

SAJ's B2 series is a high voltage battery that stacks in modules. SAJ quotes a 5 kWh module, with towers from 5 kWh to 25 kWh and the option to run several towers side by side for more storage. The B2 is designed to pair with SAJ's own hybrid inverters, which avoids the compatibility questions that can come with mixing brands.

There is also a newer B2S battery series in SAJ's Australian range.

The HS5 all-in-one

SAJ's newest home system for Australia is the HS5 all-in-one, which puts the inverter, battery and energy management into one unit. The first version is sold as the EK70. SAJ's Australian warranty for it lists:

  • Single phase inverter models from 5 kW to 10 kW.
  • Three phase inverter models from 8 kW to 20 kW.
  • Battery modules of 6, 7 and 9 kWh.

The HS5 is pitched at homes that want a neater install and a single system to manage, rather than an inverter on the wall with batteries beside it.

What the warranties cover

H2 inverter. SAJ's Australian inverter warranty, which lists the H2 series, gives a standard warranty of 10 years from commissioning. The same document offers a paid extension to 15 or 20 years, which has to be applied for within a set window after installation.

B2 battery. SAJ's Australian battery warranty gives the B2 and B2S series 10 years from commissioning. On performance, SAJ guarantees the battery keeps at least 60% of its usable capacity for 10 years, or delivers a set total amount of energy, whichever comes first. One condition worth noting: SAJ expects the battery to be installed within 6 months of it leaving the factory.

HS5 EK70. SAJ's Australian warranty gives the inverter and battery a 10-year standard warranty, with the battery guaranteed to keep at least 60% of its nominal energy over that period, or a set throughput, whichever comes first. The meter and other accessories carry 2 years. An extension to 15 years can be purchased.

A note on comparing brands: battery performance warranties are not all written the same way. Some guarantee 70% of usable energy at 10 years, some 60%, and the throughput figure that can end the warranty early also varies. Read that line on every battery you compare, because it says more about how the maker expects the battery to age than the headline years do.

Like most manufacturers, SAJ asks that faults are reported within 30 days of appearing. That is one of the reasons it helps to have an installer watching the system and handling claims on your behalf.

The elekeeper app

SAJ's monitoring and energy management platform is elekeeper. It shows what your panels, battery and home are doing in real time, and SAJ says it can help you use more of your own solar and manage battery charging. SAJ also says elekeeper connects to some virtual power plant and tariff platforms, which can matter if you want your battery to respond to wholesale prices or join a retailer's program. Check that the specific program you are interested in supports your exact SAJ model before relying on it.

As with any brand, keep the system connected to your Wi-Fi so both you and your installer can see what it is doing.

Questions worth asking about an SAJ quote

  1. Is it an H2 inverter with B2 batteries, or an HS5 all-in-one?
  2. Does the inverter suit your home's supply, single phase or three phase?
  3. How much usable storage is included, and how far can it be expanded later?
  4. Which parts of the home will stay powered in a blackout?
  5. Is the battery on the Clean Energy Council approved list at the time of the quote? This matters for the federal battery discount.

When you are ready to see what an SAJ system or any other option would look like on your home, you can map out your panels on an aerial photo of your roof and see an installed price in a few minutes.

So easy a galah could do it.

Draw it, price it, too easy. Design your own system on your own roof and get a real installed price in minutes. Rather talk it through first? Request a call back and we will size it on your actual usage.
